The Dude... Drifter came to live with me when he was three months and five days old. We had many, many good times during the five years and eleven months we were together, and we went through a lot of rough spots, too. Through it all; the breakups of relationships, moves, illnesses, he remained my one, sole reason for going on. Drifter was my strength. When I thought I was training him, in reality he was training me. He was the one "constant" in my life. He gave his love to me unconditionally asking for nothing in return except to be loved back. Drifter loved everyone. It's been almost eleven years since Drifter left me and made his trip to Rainbow Bridge. I still have a hard time without Drifter at my side. I know that he wouldn't want me to be sad so I am writing a book, and Drifter comes back on occasion to help me; perhaps I'll be able to work through the grief I am still feeling. And if I'm able to accomplish that then, once again, Drifter has helped me.

Rest peacefully, my Blue Eyed Main Man.

"Heart Kisses"

You left so suddenly with no warning

You were OK when I left in the morning

I feel a gentle pressure on my heart

The place you laid from the very start

It feels like a gentle kiss on my heart

Why did you for the Rainbow Bridge depart

You came into my life and became my inspiration

You always looked at me with so much adoration

I miss your special ways and the fact, after abuse, you feared nobody

Something special happened when I first saw your deformed body

Oh,  there it happened again, a gentle kiss on my heart

Mandy came to me when she was just over three months old; Even though Mandy came from a puppy mill in the Mid-West like all pet store dogs do she was a true Southern Belle even carrying herself like one.
Early February of 2004 Mandy went down -  I took her to the ER vet who examined her from one end to the other and took x-rays. He saw calcification between two of her discs but noticed something when he used the light to look into her eyes. Her right eye would stay dilated. He gave me meds for her pain and told me to take her to her own vet the following day which I did. The diagnosis was the same. I kept Mandy crated carrying her to her food/water and outside/inside. By the middle of February Mandy was able to walk and was going outside and to her food and water on her own. February 17, 2004 Mandy walked to the water bowl in the kitchen, started drinking, looked up at me in total confusion as if to ask, "What's happening to me, Mother?", then keeled over.

Have fun, Darlin'. I'll be with you again.
